Is advertising tax deductible?
Yes. Ads, business cards, promotional items and sponsoring something to get the business’s name out are deductible in full.
The rule
Anything that promotes the business to customers counts: online and print ads, business cards, flyers, signs, samples, a booth at a fair, sponsoring a local team with your name on the shirts.
Photography, design and writing for your marketing are deductible too, as contract labor or advertising.
$150 of Instagram ads is deductible in full.
Priced at 36¢ on the dollar, the rate of a $95,000 sole proprietor in California. Work out yours.
