Is it HSA eligible?

Is acupuncture HSA eligible?

Yes. The IRS lists acupuncture by name as a medical expense.

The rule

Acupuncture is on the IRS’s own list of medical expenses, with no condition attached to it.

Paid yourself, it waits in the HSA until you take the money out, this year or decades from now.

What to keep
Receipts with the date of each session and what you paid.
Watch for
Herbs or supplements sold at the clinic are a different rule: they count only when recommended to treat a condition a physician diagnosed.
Anything insurance paid, or paid you back for, can’t also come out of the HSA. Only what you paid yourself counts.

Checked on October 2, 2026 against Publication 502, Medical and Dental Expenses and Publication 969, Health Savings Accounts. An estimate for your records, not tax advice.

Keep the receipt. Take the money out later.

Pay a medical bill yourself and Reimburse keeps the receipt, with who it was for, until you take the money out of your HSA tax-free.
