Is a gym membership tax deductible?

No. Staying fit is personal, even when your look or health matters to the work.

The rule

The IRS treats exercise as a personal expense, and that includes performers, models, athletes and fitness creators. A membership, classes and personal training for yourself aren’t deductible.

A personal trainer who pays a gym for access or space to train clients is paying for a workplace, which is a business expense like rent.
